The Shanxia section of the Yongding River in Mentougou District has long been the ideal habitat for waterfowl, typically black storks are most likely to be found here, a first-class protected species in China. Black storks can usually be seen foraging on the tidal flats along this river during the morning and you can then see them flying to the mountain peaks to (probably) sunbathe.
