Celebrating 72nd Anniversary with Audience at Beijing People's Art Theatre

On June 12, 2024, the Beijing People's Art Theatre celebrated its 72nd anniversary. Themed "Youthful Spirit of the Beijing People's Art Theatre", the theatre engaged in a 12-hour continuous commemorative activities, combining on-site events with online live streams. These activities are designed to share the joy of theatre with the audience and to celebrate the theatre's birthday together. The day-long event was structured into six major segments, including exclusive interviews, behind-the-scenes glimpses, live performances, and classic presentations, showcasing the theatre's artistic achievements over the past 72 years in a variety of engaging formats.

Showcase of outstanding assessment works by young actors from Beijing People's Art Theatre

Two on-site events, promoted through a call for participants, drew the registration of thousands of the audience. In the morning, a "Classics and Youth" audience sharing session took place at the Capital Theatre, where the entire class of graduates enrolled in 1985 from the Beijing People's Art Theatre and the newly graduated students who enrolled in 2022 acting training class came together on stage, representing two generations of artists. In the afternoon, the "We Are in Our Prime" showcase of outstanding assessment works by young actors from the Beijing People's Art Theatre was staged at the Cao Yu Theatre of the Beijing International Drama Center.

During the commemorative event, the online broadcast of classic plays was a highlight, presenting two classic dramas, one Chinese and one foreign, to the audience. Ruan Lingyu, recorded in 4K technology in 2022, was screened for the first time in high definition for a limited audience. The Caine Mutiny, featuring artists such as Zhu Xu in 1988, once again showcased the stage impact of this classic work.

Around the 72nd anniversary, the Beijing People's Art Theatre's original historical drama Zhang Juzheng was carefully refined and restaged, allowing the audience to experience the enchantment of theatre.
