Pinggu Ditty, also known as "Pinggu Drum Opera," was created around 1880 by Wang Xianzhang, a drum opera artist from Pinggu. As it was disseminated, this performing art garnered various names, such as "Iron Plate Drum," "Laoqiang Ditty," "Laoting Drum," and "Iron Piece Drum," among others. Depending on the singing style, it can be further classified into "Small Mouth Pinggu Drum" (featuring faster rhythms) and "Large Mouth Pinggu Drum (featuring slower rhythms)."
Pinggu Ditty is heard and has its influence mainly in regions including Beijing, Tianjin, Liaoning, etc.
