Currently, Beijing is home to a total of 1,065 parks, making itself an ecologically livable city with "green defenses" in the mountains, "green seas" on the plains, and "green scenery" in urban areas. This year, the greenery area in the city is planned to increase by over 6.66 square kilometers, bringing the forest coverage rate to 44.95 percent.
Nanyuan Forest and Wetland Park
Recently, the observation deck of Nanyuan Forest and Wetland Park, located next to the South 4th Ring Road in Beijing, officially opened. Visitors can now enjoy gorgeous, panoramic views of the park which spans over 6 square kilometers and houses the largest forest in the southern part of the city.
In recent years, Beijing has completed two rounds of afforestation projects covering over 666.66 square kilometers respectively. In the plain area, there are 40 forest wetlands, each covering more than 6.66 square kilometers, such as the Central Green Forest Park in the east and the Olympic Forest Park in the north, along with 498 green areas, each covering more than 0.66 square kilometers. This year, the city will welcome 15 new leisure parks and urban forests, and 50 pocket parks and micro and small-sized green spaces, enabling more than 90 percent of its residents to access parks within 500 meters as the crow flies.
Olympic Forest Park
On the plains and in the low mountain areas, Beijing is connecting parks with forest trails. By building a "flower corridor" and "colorful forest" around the city, the "green seas" of the plains and the "green defenses" of the mountains are gradually connected.
Beijing is also enhancing the aesthetic appeal of these areas by creating 100 stunning forests on the plains and another 100 in the mountainous regions. The city aims to cultivate a green and ecological environment that benefits the general public, showcasing seasonal transformations marked by spring flowers, summer fruits, autumn leaves, and winter birds.
