The Plan of Beijing Municipality for Conservation & Development of The Great Wall Cultural Belt (2018-2035) was recently released.
The Beijing Great Wall Cultural Belt roughly accounts for 30 percent of Beijing's total urban area. The belt with a total area of 4,929.29 square kilometers is divided into the core and the radiating areas.
According to the plan, by 2035, Beijing is expected to ensure that the Great Wall and surrounding environments are free from danger. It will establish a mechanism for the preventive protection of heritage through emergency rescue and daily maintenance, which in the long run will aid in this world-renowned structure’s preservation.
