Mentougou District is located southwest of Beijing's urban region, covering a total area of 1,447.85 square kilometers. It currently administers nine towns and four sub-district offices.
As of the end of 2024, the district's permanent population was 396,000. Preliminary calculations put Mentougou's GDP in 2024 at 30.44 billion yuan.
Tanzhe Temple in the district, built during the Jin Dynasty, is the oldest temple in Beijing. Following maintenance and renovation in the following Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, it is now the largest ancient temple complex in the suburbs of Beijing, retaining features of the Ming and Qing dynasties.
