Beijing Ranks Second Globally in Terms of Digital Economy Development

On July 3, the Annual Report on the Digital Economy of Beijing was issued at the special forum "Data Elements and New Quality Productive Forces" of the Global Digital Economy Conference 2024. The report shows that Beijing ranks second globally in terms of digital economy development, becoming one of the top-tier cities in this regard worldwide.

The report selected 23 cities around the globe as samples, including New York in the United States, London in the United Kingdom, and Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong in China. It conducted comprehensive assessments to rank these cities based on their development levels of digital economy, from six dimensions including digital intelligence infrastructure and supporting facilities. The results showed that San Francisco topped the list with the highest digital economy development scores, followed by Beijing, New York, London, and Washington DC. The report also shows that Beijing leads the world in original digital innovation.

According to the report, Beijing has been expanding its 5G network coverage, with 104,000 5G base stations and 313,000 communication base stations established in the city, leading the country with the highest number of 5G base stations per 10,000 people. Currently, Beijing has 9.334 million fixed broadband Internet users, and ranks among the top in China in terms of the number of IoT terminal users.
