"Antique-style porcelain" is a kind of porcelain modeled on the basis of famous ancient porcelain varieties. "Beijing antique-style porcelain" started in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China period, but now it has a new name, "Jingcai (Beijing colored) porcelain." When the first Beijing antique-style porcelain appeared, because of its fine texture, glaze colors, and pictures, it is comparable to that produced in official kilns. Since then, with the abolition of the monarchy and decline in the number of officials, some of the fine porcelains entered the general public. What's more, some large porcelain stores, such as Detai Porcelain Store in Qianmen, began to create customized porcelain, selling antique-style porcelain of different dynasties on a wholesale basis; and Guo Baochang set up a kiln in White Pagoda Temple and hired artists to produce antique-style porcelains. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Beijing Arts and Crafts Factory, which mainly produced antique-style porcelains, was officially put into operation. From then on, there emerged relatively large professional manufacturers of Beijing Antique-style Porcelain. Unlike other precisely imitated porcelains, this kind of intangible cultural heritage which was born in Beijing has a special flavor. Though imitating the ancient aesthetic feelings and made using ancient methods, it doesn't stick to formalities on confine to particular ware shapes. The full and bright glaze as well as the exquisite and powerful paintings highlight the relief and show the majestic atmosphere of the imperial city. And this is inseparable from its capital origin and technique inheritance.
