Phase One of Jing-Zhang Railway Park Unveiled: Now Open to Public

On the morning of June 29, Phase One of the Jing-Zhang Railway Park, spanning approximately 2.5 kilometers north to south, was officially opened.

The park has been developed as a green leisure space and urban cultural hub which embodies the spirit of Chinese communist history, industrial culture, ecological culture and community culture. Designed with the goal of injecting more vitality into the city, the park includes a brand new full-size football pitch, one smaller five-a-side football field, two basketball courts and a trampoline area, as well as a smart fitness plaza.

There are over 20 unique design elements related to the Jing-Zhang Railway within the park, including railway tracks and old-style train carriages.

Phase One of the park adheres to the concept of the "sponge city", incorporating a sustainable rainwater collection and drainage system. It utilizes waste soil to create green spaces, such as football pitches and green hills.

The "Mobile Box"

Additionally, the park has introduced the concept of a "Mobile Box", which can be moved along railway tracks and reconfigured, serving as an exhibition platform for surrounding technology and innovation enterprises. The park also includes 16.8 hectares of new green space, providing jogging and cycling lanes among other pedestrian-friendly areas.

The overall planning scope of the Jing-Zhang Railway Park extends from Beijing North Railway Station in the south to the northern 5th ring road, with a total length of nine kilometers and a total area of 14 square kilometers.

In the near future, Haidian District will begin work on a second phase of the Jing-Zhang Railway Park, spanning another nine kilometers from Xizhimen to Qinghe, as well as longer-term planning and designs.
