Founded in 1955, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences (formerly known as the China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine) is a comprehensive institution for scientific research, clinical medicine and medical education on traditional Chinese medicine. In 1984, the graduate department was formally established. In 2005, it was approved as the first graduate school in traditional Chinese medicine industry by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
As an important base for cultivating high-level talents of traditional Chinese medicine, Graduate School of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences has been authorized to award Master's degrees and Doctor's degrees in all disciplines and majors of the following three first-level disciplines: Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chinese Materia Medica and Integration of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine. Additionally, it has been authorized to award professional degrees for Clinical Medicine major, as well as accept the applications of those who are at their posts for degrees. Meanwhile, it has postdoctoral workstations for the three first-level disciplines (Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chinese Materia Medica and Integration of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine).
Many years on, under the guidance of "systematic learning, comprehensive mastering, overall improving", Graduate School of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences has given full play to the advantages of having high-level experts, sufficient scientific research projects and numerous instructors. It has carried out educational and teaching reform, focused on the advancement of curriculum system as well as the improvement of teaching quality, and concentrated on cultivating innovative and practical graduate students. It has cultivated countless outstanding talents for China and the world, most of whom have become discipline leaders and academic backbones of traditional Chinese medicine institutions both at home and abroad.
