The Angel Dances
Concert by the Cello Ensemble of the China Philharmonic Orchestra
19:30 | Thursday | Oct 21 | The Red, Taikoo Li Sanlitun North
Ticket (CNY): VIP200
The cello is widely regarded as an instrument whose sound is the closest to the human voice. With a dozen cellos, you have an all embracing ensemble that loses none of the colors in the music you play. The practice of the "cello ensemble" started with the prestigious Berlin Philharmonic, whose cello section now enjoys an identity of its own.
In this concert, the 12 cellists of the China Philharmonic decide to show their tricks by starting a program in homage to Astor Piazzolla, whose centennial we celebrate this year. Continuing the fiery South American spirit, they present more Latin American dances from Elizondo, and the ingenious fusion of Bachian polyphony and Brazilian rhythms from Villa-Lobos, one of the greatest South American composers. In the center, of course, is the cello, which plays all.
