BMF -- Music at Noon Concert Series No. 2 ——Those Romantic Wanderers
13:00-14:00 | Friday | Oct 15 | B1 Auditorium, China World Summit Wing, Beijing
The Romantics were always on the road. In both Schubert's Biedemeyer Vienna and Mahler's fin-desiècle anxiety, the story of the Romantic wanderer --the fiery and wounded heart, the chirping birds in the field, the sorrowful anticipation of death, the lover forever gone, and the Lindenbaum - carried on. Schubert's Winterreise, a cycle of 24 songs that records a heartbroken love story, was composed in the 1820s and is now one of the most esteemed vocal works. Mahler, who continued Schubert's tradition of art songs, captures the joy and agony of young Romantic wanderers in his first masterpiece Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen in a more folksy way. Together, through the voice of baritone Wang Yun-Peng and the hands of pianist Seo Kyeong Yeon, they bring us back to the wonderful belle epoch.
