A beautiful corridor has recently been built for the Shuangjing-CBD Slow Transport System in Beijing, offering greater convenience to citizens in their travels.
The wall of the corridor is now utilized for themed exhibitions.
The underground corridor, named "Jingse Shiguang Huayuan" (which can be interpreted as "Garden Telling the Stories of the Splendid Shuangjing Area"), stretches to the Central Business District (CBD), the Tonghui River and Qingfeng Park on the north, and now it becomes an essential route for residents traveling to these three destinations. In the past, the corridor was known for its uneven pathway, scraped walls and dim lighting. To make matters worse, during rainy days, water would drip from the ceiling and flood the ground, causing much inconvenience for passersby.

In order to address issues related to leakage and drainage, a renovation project was undertaken to improve settlement joints and enhance the waterproofing quality of the corridor. Vigilant sensors have been installed to monitor the water levels. The steep paths on both sides of the corridor have been widened, with separate tracks for pedestrians and cyclists designed according to the needs of citizens. Handrails have also been installed to ensure the safety of travelers.
The renovated corridor is not only more functional, but also more aesthetically pleasing. For example, a greenery zone has been built within the triangular area at the entrance of the corridor, serving as a safety barrier between pedestrians and vehicles. Colorful fiberglass seats can also be found at the entrance. The walls inside the corridor are now utilized for themed exhibitions featuring the Caoyun (grain transport by waterways) culture, the origin of names of several places, industrial heritage, and the colorful paintings of the charming landmark buildings in the Shuangjing area.
