Yonghe Palace was first used as the residence of Emperor Shizong (also known as Emperor Yongzheng, whose name is Yinzhen) of the Qing Dynasty when he was still a Beile (a rank of the Manchu nobility below that of the Prince) and later a Prince. It was also the place where Emperor Gaozong (also known as Emperor Qianlong, whose name is Hongli) of the Qing Dynasty was born and grew up. It used to be the residence for Emperor Yongzheng and Emperor Qianlong before they succeeded to the throne. Later on, it was upgraded as the temporary dwelling palace for the emperors of the Qing Dynasty and was renovated as a royal temple in the end. The temple is composed of three fine-designed memorial archways and five grand halls standing in a line.
