On January 22, High-speed Train G902 pulled out of the Harbin West Railway Station in Heilongjiang Province, indicating the final full-distance operation of the line linking Beijing with the northeastern provinces of Liaoning, Jilin, and Heilongjiang.

The Beijing-Harbin high-speed railway will further shorten the travel time between the two cities to 4 hours and 52 minutes from the previous 6 hours and 32 minutes.

With a designed speed of 350 km per hour, the 1198-km Beijing-Harbin high-speed railway runs from Beijing's Chaoyang District to Harbin as an important part of the country's "eight vertical and eight horizontal" trunk rail lines of the national high-speed railway service network. Construction of the whole route was divided into three sections to be completed in three phases. The Shenyang-Harbin section of the route was put into operations on December 1, 2012, and the Shenyang-Chengde section started operation on December 29, 2018. The last section from Chengde to Beijing along the line was opened up on January 22, 2021.
