According to Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport and Beijing Major Railway Station Areas Administration, a new round of railway station optimization and upgrading projects is underway in Beijing, covering eight major railway stations, totaling 70 tasks, of which 55 have been completed.

Among them, the underground connection project at Beijing Railway Station is under research and development to open up underground transfer passages between railways and subway lines, allowing passengers to complete their transfers underground quickly and efficiently. Beijing Railway Station will also build a second-phase parking lot with waiting areas for online car-hailing services.

Beijing Railway Station plays a critical role in ensuring efficient passenger transportation. Its passenger volume ranks fourth in the city after Beijing South Railway Station, Beijing West Railway Station, and Beijing Fengtai Railway Station. The second-phase parking lot is designed to further expedite the trips for passengers. Specifically, the function-based zoning of this parking lot will be adjusted and optimized to fully leverage the above-ground spatial resources, integrate and renovate a confiscated parking lot and the nearest bus stop of the No. 20 bus line into the waiting area for online car-hailing services to reduce the waiting times of passengers on the roadside and relieve traffic congestion caused by online car-hailing.

In addition, since Beijing Zhan (Beijing Railway Station) Station along the Subway Line 2 is one of the earliest subway stations built and put into operation in Beijing, the underground space and platform area reserved at the time of design and construction were rather limited.  To ensure the safety of underground passengers and enable timely flow restriction measures on the ground, railway and subway transfers at Beijing Railway Station will have to take place on the ground level.

Meanwhile,  the underground connection project at Beijing Railway Station is also on the agenda of the municipality of Beijing. Passengers will soon be able to complete their transfers underground quickly and efficiently thanks to the opening of the underground transfer passages between railways and subway lines.
