BEIJING, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese folk musicians have adapted four pieces of Western classical music to be played on traditional instruments and performed the works at a concert in Beijing.

At the orchestral concert held on Sunday evening, folk musicians led by conductor Peng Jiapeng played their versions of the Western classics, including the overtures of William Tell and Carmen.

Zhu Changyao, who plays the Erhu, a traditional Chinese instrument, and cellist Kang Qiaoxuan together played several pieces of Chinese music.

Peng, artistic director of the Suzhou Chinese Orchestra, said the performances were aimed at strengthening interactions and exchanges between traditional Chinese folk musicians and the international music circle, and promoting the international influence of Chinese folk music.

The concert was part of the ongoing 23rd Beijing Music Festival, which involves a series of consecutive classical music shows performed both online and offline for over 240 hours. The festival kicked off last Saturday.
