On June 11, 2023, the first Pinggu Sailing Open, with the theme of "Charming Pinggu Sails" was held at Jinhai Lake in Pinggu District, Beijing.

There were two groups of competition at the event: the adults group and the adolescents group. More than a hundred sailing enthusiasts from Pinggu District, major universities in Beijing, and various clubs, as well as foreign friends who have been in Beijing for years set off on picturesque Jinhai Lake, presenting a visual feast of sails set against the natural landscape. On the shore, the crowds of spectators, including more than 200 representatives from various sectors of industry, media, and citizens from all walks of life, gathered to watch the competition. "We have been to Jinhai Lake many times, but this is the first time we watch a sailing competition up close. It is really exciting to see the sailors chasing each other over the vast waters!" said Mr. Zhang, a local resident who watched the competition from the stands.

The chief representative of the competition organizer stated in an interview that the competition integrated the regional characteristics of the city, highlighted the cultural aspects of Pinggu sailing, and put the high-quality ecology of Jinhai Lake on full display. The participants were embraced by the beauty of Jinhai Lake, experiencing the high-quality offerings of this "leisure valley to the world" while the regional characteristics of Pinggu as an outdoor paradise were showcased. In the future, the organizing committee will create various sailing events for outdoor sports and leisure devotees, making full use of the ideal location of Jinhai Lake and its suitability as a venue for water sports.

It is well-recognized that 2023 is a key year for the implementation of the new development plan of the 14th Five-Year Plan. To that end, Pinggu District has concentrated its efforts on creating a variety of unique leisure tourism products and branded sporting events to combine leisure and sports, advocate a green and sound lifestyle, and improve the physical fitness and health of citizens while promoting the development of its "leisure valley to the world". As an important hub of the Leisure Economy Zone along the Juhe and Ruhe Rivers in Pinggu District, Jinhai Lake is hosting high-quality sailing events to enhance the "Charming Pinggu" brand. By combining sports with tourism, Pinggu is fully utilizing its important cultural and tourism landmarks, allowing sailing enthusiasts to experience the beautiful mountains and waters of Pinggu and enjoy life in this ecological and environmentally friendly city.

This competition was hosted by the Pinggu District People's Government of Beijing Municipality and co-organized by the Pinggu District Bureau of Sports, the Beijing Yachting Association, and the Jinhai Lake Zhai Mo International Sailing Center.
