2026 Beijing Forum on Swift Response to Public Complaints
2026-10-14

Municipal departments stand at the forefront of public services and shoulder important responsibilities for resolving day-to-day issues. These include community governance, public space maintenance and basic public services. By holding forums like this one, cities can enhance mutual understanding, share practical experience, explore governance approaches that respond to citizens' appeals more efficiently and promptly, and jointly build people-centered cities that better address people's livelihood needs.

Citizens' appeals are not just problems to be fixed — they serve as data resources essential for understanding public needs and improving urban public services. Between 2023 and 2025, the number of complaints related to environmental sanitation in Athens dropped by approximately 30 percent, which demonstrates the great value of evaluating service outcomes and identifying governance shortcomings through data analysis. Beijing's practices in responding to citizens' appeals and conducting urban governance provide valuable references for Athens to advance people-centered urban governance, and bring new inspiration for building a city that is better at listening to citizens' voices and actively addressing their concerns.
