Beijing recorded an average concentration of PM2.5 of 30.8 mg/m³ in the first quarter of 2025, marking a year-on-year decrease of 20.4 percent and the best level compared with the same periods of the previous years. The number of days with good/moderate air quality reached 79, and the overall water environmental quality remained moderate.
Beijing took several measures to continuously improve its ecological environment. The city aims to effectively control air pollution as part of its Blue Sky Protection Campaign, and encourages enterprises to go green. So far, 141 companies have been recognized as green ones. Actions for the protection of water resources, water pollution treatment and ecological protection of water were taken, including ecological water replenishment for the Grand Canal, Chaobai River, and Yongding River. Efforts were also made for the development and protection of beautiful rivers and lakes. The city resorts to the effective management of soil pollution risks and has been advancing the development of a "zero-waste city". In addition, the city strengthened control of carbon emissions in key sectors, with over 8 billion kilowatt-hours of green electricity traded through market mechanisms. Regarding efforts in piloting and demonstrating, Pinggu District was selected as one of the second batch of national carbon peaking pilot zones. Beijing also aims to enhance biodiversity protection, with the coverage of the joint meeting mechanism for biodiversity protection expanded from the municipal-level authorities to districts. The city has been actively promoting the establishment of Yanshan Mountain - Saihanba National Park and implementing the project for the integrated conservation and restoration of mountains, rivers, forests, farmland, lakes, grasslands and deserts in western Beijing's ecological barrier area in an orderly manner.
