Class II Protection Species Reed Parrotbill Spotted in Miyun District

Recently, a reed parrotbill was spotted near the Chaobai River downstream of Miyun Reservoir. This bird species newly recorded in Miyun District is under Class II protection in China and has been categorized as a near-threatened (NT) species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Known as the "Pandas of Birds", reed parrotbills are mainly found in eastern and northeastern China. In recent years, with the continuous improvements in Beijing's ecological environment, reed parrotbills have been sighted in a wider range of habitats spanning Fangshan, Daxing, Fengtai, etc.

At present, there are 415 bird species in Miyun, accounting for 80 percent of all in Beijing. The number reflects Miyun's remarkable achievements in biodiversity conservation.
