On September 28, the Ecological Bird-Watching Festival kicked off in Beizhuang Town, Miyun District. The festival consisted of a series of colorful sub-events such as the Bird-Watching Economy Salon, the release of rescued birds, the guide on field birdwatching, the educational courses on the facts about common birds, and a distinctive fair featuring agricultural products.
Located upstream Miyun Reservoir, Beizhuang Town has a forest coverage rate of 82.95 percent and 53 hectares of wetland. It serves as a habitat for little egrets, striated herons, Chinese sparrowhawks, swans, and other rare birds in different seasons. According to the statistics, a total of 215 bird species have been recorded in the town's territory, including 6 species under Class I protection in China and 33 species under Class Ⅱ protection, as well as 67 species under municipal-level protection in Beijing.
