Just outside Beijing's Southeastern 5th Ring Road, high-rise buildings stand amid lush greenery. Enterprises on Fortune's Global 500 ranking and international pharmaceutical giants, including Eli Lilly and Company, Bayer, Medtronic, Bristol Myers Squibb and AstraZeneca, have all chosen to establish their presence here in BioPark, an international industrial park centered on pharmaceutical innovation. With an international-style environment for innovation, continuously evolving policy support and increasingly efficient local services, BioPark offers a window into how the capital has been attracting and retaining foreign investment.

Medtronic, the world's biggest medical device enterprise, has established its first digital medical innovation base in China at BioPark. Those working for the enterprise have been impressed by Beijing's business services highlighted by full-process support, targeted coordination, rapid response to corporate needs and closed-loop implementation. These services have made it easier to understand and utilize relevant policies, thereby allowing the enterprise to better focus on platform operations and expand local footprints, driving the steady launch and long-term development of its products in the Chinese market.

AstraZeneca's sixth global strategic R&D center is expected to officially open at BioPark in the second half of 2026. Focusing on artificial intelligence and data-driven innovation, the center is expected to accelerate the translation of pharmaceutical R&D results into solutions for clinical application.

With its open ecosystem for innovation, the park has been attracting an increasing number of foreign-invested enterprises. Today, it houses 14 multinational pharmaceutical giants and local innovative enterprises, successfully fostering a synergistic ecosystem encompassing both global and local players.

This March, Eli Lilly and Company announced that it would invest about 20 billion yuan in China over the next decade. As an important part of its strategy in China, the enterprise has once again expanded its investment footprint in Beijing.

Beijing's efficient and stable policy environment, strong foundation for clinical and scientific research, world-class university resources, mature and well-developed environment for the biomedical industry, and continuously efforts in deepening opening-up have strengthened enterprises' confidence in making long-term investments and enhancing their presence in the city.
