Recently, the National Olympic Sports Center has removed the fence that had been in place since 2008, made Beijing Olympic Park open 24 hours a day, and removed security checks as well as other restrictions for visitors, such as the ban on the entry of bicycles.
Covering a total area of 11.59 square kilometers, the Center is the world's first venue to host both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, serving in the meantime a comprehensive public activity center integrating multiple functions such as sports events, exhibitions, science and culture education, shopping, and entertainment.
With the fence removed and closed-off management canceled, locals and tourists from elsewhere find it more convenient to access the area. In addition, a 7.5-kilometer "Rainbow" cycling route has been unveiled in Beijing Olympic Park, where visitors can explore landmark sites including the National Stadium (Bird's Nest) and the National Aquatics Center (Water Cube) in one go. The park now also offers newly added services and amenities, such as coffee shops, casual dining locations, bike rentals, and repair services.
The Management Committee of the National Olympic Sports Center is collaborating with other organizations to develop plans for greening and transportation for Beijing Olympic Park. In the future, this "unwalled park" will, more comfortable than ever, be truly transformed into a boundless central park opening 24/7 for the capital city.
