China and the United States have the largest S&T clusters in the world. China, for the second consecutive year, leads with the most clusters in the top 100, and Beijing ranks third in the global S&T clusters. Recently, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) released the 2024 Global Innovation Index.

The index shows that among the top ten S&T clusters in the world, seven are located in Asia and three in the United States, with the overall ranking not changing very much. Tokyo–Yokohama (Japan) leads as the world's largest S&T cluster, followed by Shenzhen–Hong Kong–Guangzhou (China). Beijing's ranking rose one place from last year to the third.

Looking at the global top 100 S&T clusters, changes in the rankings have become notable compared to last year. Most S&T clusters in North America and Europe have fallen in their rankings while clusters in middle-income economies experienced the strongest technology growth. Among them, China's S&T clusters have achieved the fastest growth in technology output, leading with the most clusters (26) in the top 100 for the second consecutive year.
