Recently, the annual evaluation report of the Tsinghua Urban Health Index 2024 was released. After one year, Beijing has returned to the first place in the country, with remarkable performances in medical and healthcare funding, health industries, and health support facilities.
The report, which has been released for five consecutive years, offers a multi-dimensional "health portrait" of Chinese cities under six major evaluation indicators: health services, health industries, health behaviors, health facilities, health environments, and health benefits.
The report ranks participating cities across five levels: leading, high-quality, average, developing, and catching-up (from highest to lowest). This year, more cities have made it to the leading level, and Beijing has achieved even bigger progress, leading the country in the three indicators of health industries, health behaviors, and health facilities.
This year, the report has also evaluated international cities by incorporating popular indicators used in global urban health assessments and refining the health comparison system for international cities. The evaluation covers 36 cities from 16 countries, including not only China's Beijing, Shanghai, and 14 other cities but also 20 foreign cities such as London, New York, Paris, and Singapore. The findings indicate that Chinese cities excel in health outcomes, healthcare services, and urban greening. Beijing ranks second in healthcare services among all the cities evaluated.
