On December 15, the exhibition Cloisonné: A Legacy in Blue Reimagined opened at the National Centre for the Performing Arts. Jointly organized by the National Centre for the Performing Arts and the Beijing Enamel Factory, the exhibition centers on the cloisonné-making technique, a national-level intangible cultural heritage. Featuring over 160 precious works and sets, it systematically traces the full historical trajectory of cloisonné, from its introduction via the Silk Road, its flourishing in the Ming and Qing dynasties, to its contemporary revival, presenting a cultural dialogue and innovative practices bridging past and present, East and West. The exhibition will run until March 22, 2026.
Cloisonné, also known as "copper-bodied cloisonné enamel", is regarded as one of the highest expressions of Chinese craft aesthetics. In 2006, the craftsmanship of cloisonné was included in the first batch of China's National Intangible Cultural Heritage.
