In Zhangzhen Town, Shunyi District, a time-honored belief that the Kitchen God is one of the residents of Zhanggezhuang prevails. According to the folklore, Kitchen God was a local kind-hearted farmer named Zhang. After enduring numerous hardships, he was bestowed the title of "Kitchen God" by the Jade Emperor. To this day, many villagers in Zhangzhen Town still keep the tradition of displaying the image of the Kitchen God and a dedicated shrine in front of their kitchen stoves as a form of worship.

Since 2017, Shunyi District has been hosting the "Kitchen God Cultural Festival" on the 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month every year. This cultural festival offers the opportunity to savor unique local cuisine and appreciate the traditional craftsmanship passed down through generations, where people can also glimpse into the traditional kitchen god worship ceremony.
