In late March, Chinese wild peach blossoms woke up the earth to spring. The China National Botanical Garden's 4th Peach Blossom Viewing Season and World Famous Flower Exhibition have kicked off and will run through May 5.
In late March, the Chinese Wild Peach Blossom Stream (山桃花溪) and the Plum Garden (梅园) entered their prime viewing periods. In early April, along Shanbitao Avenue, tall flowering peach trees of shanbitao (Prunus persica × davidiana) subspecies, such as Prunus persica × davidiana 'Pin Hong', Prunus persica × davidiana 'Pin Xia', and Prunus 'Baihua Shanbitao', will be in full bloom. In mid-to-late April, over 1,000 peach trees of several subspeicies, including Amygdalus persica 'Juhuatao', Prunus persica 'Densa', and Prunus persica 'Fastigiata', all located in the Peach Garden (桃花园), will enter their peak blooming periods.
Throughout the spring, visitors can admire more than 60 varieties of peach blossoms, as well as nearly 1,000 varieties of other spring flowers, including plum blossoms, magnolia blossoms, crabapple blossoms, and lilacs.
The viewing season of plum blossoms is expected to last from late March through mid-April. Currently, varieties of the Upright Plum Group are in full bloom, and around the Qingming Festival, those of the Apricot Plum Group and the Blireiana Group will also gradually reach their peak blooming periods.
In mid-April, the exhibition area for tulips will reach its best viewing period. Those inside the Crabapple Garden (海棠园) and the Lilac Garden (丁香园) will also begin to flower and last until May when the peonies take the spotlight.
Additionally, a low-temperature greenhouse spanning over 10,000 square meters is scheduled to open to the public during this year's Peach Blossom Viewing Season. Five exhibitions and more than 60 sub-events (including science education sessions, cultural activities, and research trips) ensure immersive tours throughout the spring. Various specialty markets, including those featuring creative cultural souvenirs and flowers, will add to the ambiance inside the scenic area, with many new creative souvenirs to be launched.
