Recently, the environmental improvement project for the urban section of the Grand Canal at the Beijing Municipal Administrative Center (BMC) was officially completed. Stretching from Beiguan Sluice Bridge in the north to Gantang Sluice Bridge in the south, the revitalized section spans approximately 11.2 kilometers and features an enhanced landscape.

The project focused on three core elements: nighttime lighting, urban landscape design, and intelligent environmental management, aiming to comprehensively enhance the spatial quality and service functions along the canal banks.

In terms of nighttime lighting, a series of iconic landmarks have been highlighted with enhanced illumination.

Historic and cultural landmarks such as the Daguang Building (大光楼) and Randeng Pagoda (燃灯塔), public venues such as the Grand Canal Cultural Square (运河文化广场), No. 1 Wharf (1号码头), and Beijing Olympic Park (奥体公园), as well as modern landscape features including four commercial buildings in the Canal Business District and cruise ships, have all undergone lighting system upgrades.

Efforts to enhance the urban landscape focused on detailed improvements. Ground paving has been renovated, and public service facilities have been upgraded to make travel and leisure more comfortable for residents and visitors. Pedestrian and cycling paths have been extended to connect key scenic spots along the canal, creating a convenient and seamless waterfront promenade system.

In addition, the project has empowered environmental management with technology and vigorously enhanced the deployment of smart control applications. By integrating individual control units, such as landscape lighting along the route, lighting of commercial buildings, and other IoT-enabled devices, the project has established an intelligent control system featuring coordination across points, lines, and areas.
