At the opening ceremony of the Beijing Municipal Administrative Center Green Development Forum on October 26, Beijing officially launched its initiative to accelerate green industry development and establish itself as an international benchmark city for green economy by 2035.
To achieve its stated goal, Beijing will make forward-looking plans for seven strategic, foundational green industries: advanced energy, synthetic biomanufacturing, alternative proteins, intelligent connected new energy vehicles, climate resilience and environmental protection, green finance, and new professional green services.
Beijing will make well-planned efforts to lead green technology innovation, green industry development, green livable city building, green culture cultivation, and green cooperation.
Beijing has established a two-stage development goal for the next decade. The first stage is from now to 2027, during which Beijing shall realize an annual increase of around 10 percent on average in its number of valid green technology patents, accelerated development of the green industry in both scale and specialization, further improvement to its environment as a garden city and to its green infrastructure, a notable increase in the influence of green culture, and better coordination with China's other regions and greater cooperation and exchanges with other countries in the green economy. The second stage is from 2028 to 2035, during which Beijing will achieve coordinated progress in green technology innovation, green industry development, green city construction, green culture cultivation, and green cooperation and markedly increase the value added of its green economy, realizing its goal of becoming an international green economy benchmark city.
