According to Beijing Daily, construction on the link line connecting Yizhuang Line with Subway Lines 5 and 10 is set to begin at the end of the year.

Once completed, Yizhuang Line will directly connect with Line 5 to provide a through service and allow for same-platform transfers to Line 10 (for the route from Chedaogou to Bagou). The upgrade will benefit around 71,000 passengers daily at Songjiazhuang Station, who will no longer need to transfer between lines.

The new link line will extend from Xiaocun Station (not included) in Chaoyang District in the south to Songjiazhuang Station (not included) in Fengtai District in the north. It will stretch about 2.7 kilometers, comprising 2.2 kilometers of newly built underground tracks and 0.5 kilometer of existing tracks, with the entire line being underground. There are no plans to construct new stations or renovate the two existing stations at either end.

Songjiazhuang Station is a major congestion point in the subway network, positioned between Yizhuang New Town and Beijing's central urban area. It is also the only junction between the transit network of the outer new towns and the downtown area. Songjiazhuang is the busiest transfer station in the city, with a maximum controlled passenger flow of 1,553 people at stairway entrances during rush hours, which usually last between 90 and 120 minutes.

As part of the third phase of Beijing's urban rail transit development plan, the project for the new link line is designed to address this bottleneck. Once it is completed, passengers will be able to reach Yizhuang Line directly via Line 5, and transfer from Line 5 to Line 10 (for the route from Chedaogou to Bagou) on the same platforms. The project will thereby improve network connectivity and significantly boost the efficiency and service quality of the entire subway system.

The project is expected to start at the end of 2025, with the line scheduled to start operations by December 2028. The exact timeline will be subject to official announcements from relevant municipal authorities.
