Did you know? Tucked away in Beijing's Miyun District is a hidden-gem greenway with stunning scenery, few visitors and free admission—the Dashishan Forest Park Greenway in Shimayu Village. From the summit, you can enjoy panoramic views of Miyun Reservoir, feast on fish from the reservoir and experience local village traditions. It's an ideal spot for family outings, dog walks and hiking.

The Dashishan Forest Park Greenway stretches for 4.6 kilometers and is open 24 hours a day from May 15 to September 30. Surrounded by dense forest and diverse vegetation, the greenway runs alongside Miyun Reservoir, creating a natural "oxygen bar." A hike here offers a chance to immerse yourself in the tranquility of nature and admire Miyun Reservoir framed by rolling mountains.

After your hike, head to nearby Shimayu Village to sample local specialties such as stone-pot dishes and fish from Miyun Reservoir. If you still have energy to spare, drive to Miyun Reservoir Dam and head up to Sunshine Valley, where a viewing platform offers unobstructed 180-degree views across the vast reservoir.
Hiking route: Greenway Entrance → Baishou Forest → Tingfeng Ridge → Blue Waters and Cloud-filled Skies Viewing Platform → Sanxian Stone → Yunshuijian → Greenway Entrance. The route consists mainly of stone-paved paths and gentle slopes, and it takes about 30 minutes to reach the first viewing platform.
What to wear: Wear non-slip sports shoes to avoid slipping, and bring a light jacket in autumn.
Public transport: Take Miyun Bus Route No.12 to Badongtou Stop (坝东头), then walk 420 meters to the greenway entrance.
Driving: Enter "Dashishan Forest Park, Shimayu Village" (石马峪村大石山森林公园) in your navigation app. Parking is available nearby.
Reminder: The greenway is pet-friendly. Pets are welcome as long as they are kept on a leash. Remember to clean up after them and give way to pedestrians on narrower sections.
