As the summer heat gradually gives way to the soothing breeze of early autumn, Beijing's waterfronts take on a clearer, gentler charm – perfect for a relaxing escape by the water. From exhibitions and gourmet treats to scenic views, there's a wealth of exciting experiences for you to explore.

Chinese Traditional Culture Museum

The museum, also known as the "China Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum", sits along the northern extension of the Beijing Central Axis, with the dragon-shaped water system of the Beijing Olympic Park to its west — the largest man-made urban water system in Asia, of which the design is inspired by the dragon totem in traditional Chinese culture.

The museum currently has several free exhibitions running. After exploring the exhibitions, don't forget to head up to the fourth-floor terrace. The winding dragon-shaped water system stretches out below, while the nightscape of the Beijing Olympic Park unfolds before your eyes.

Luo Hong Art Museum

Located in Shunyi District, this dreamlike museum features an outdoor Chinese-style garden surrounded by hills, a lake and waterways.

Inside, more than 140 large-format photographic works are on display. Visitors under the age of 15 can enter the photography exhibition for free, while other visitors will be charged 100 yuan each for admission. During summer, the museum is open from 9:00 to 21:00.

Nanchizi Art Museum

Tucked away in a hutong east of the Forbidden City, this art museum is built in the style of a classical Suzhou garden. It regularly hosts special exhibitions featuring Oriental aesthetics and is well worth a visit.

After dark, the garden and Suzhou-style architecture look especially enchanting, with lights shimmering on the water under the starry sky.

Moon River Town

Located at the convergence of five waterways along the North Canal, this art town comes alive after dusk, when its large night market opens.

More than 140 food stalls bring together snacks from across China, while over 200 more stalls feature souvenirs as well as intangible cultural heritage-inspired items.

Canal Cruise Restaurant

This restaurant, converted from a sightseeing boat, cruises on the main waterways of the Grand Canal. Two sessions are arranged daily, from 18:30 to 20:00 and from 20:30 to 22:00. Light meals and craft beer are served on board, accompanied by traditional Chinese folk performances and modern music.

Along the way, colorful displays are projected on scenic bridges, including Qianhe Xielu Bridge and Dongguan Bridge, and ripple across both banks.

Lantang Grand Bazaar

Located along the lakeside dining street at SOLANA, the restaurant offers a 270-degree panoramic view of the lake overlooking the Liangma River.

By day, the shimmering water creates a soothing scene; by night, the lights set a more vibrant mood. A team of Thai chefs serves dishes including tasty hot-and-sour tom yum soup and refreshing steamed sea bass with lime.

Lakeside seats are in high demand, so booking in advance is recommended.
