How to Use the Ticket Reservation Service?
Passengers can submit their reservation orders via the "Ticket Reservation" (预约购票) section on the Railway 12306 app. A reservation order can be made from the 60th day to the 17th day prior to the date of train departure. Reservation orders for trips departing in 60 days can be submitted from 8:00 each day. Two reservation modes are available for passengers to meet their diverse travel demands: "Precise Reservation" (精确预约) and "Flexible Reservation" (模糊预约).
Precise Reservation: You shall choose the exact train number, departure and arrival times, seat class, ticket price, etc.
Flexible Reservation: You may use loose filters such as departure and arrival time periods, total travel duration and seat classes; flexible reservation can also be made on the "Complete Reservation Form" (填写预约单) page.
Each Railway 12306 account can hold a maximum of three pending reservation orders simultaneously. Every single order can include up to 3 "Precise Reservation" orders and 2 "Flexible Reservation" orders across 2 consecutive days. Passengers need to rank the available trains in order of priority. Also, each order can include up to 19 passengers.
Rules for Order Fulfillment and Cancellation
The Railway 12306 system fulfills reservation orders from the 20th day to the 16th day before train departures. After your order is fulfilled, you need to complete payment before 23:00 on the same day. If payment is not made on time, the order will be canceled automatically.
Attention! Any passenger who fails to settle payment on time for three consecutive times within 30 days after reservation fulfillment (including voluntary cancellation of fulfilled orders), his/her Railway 12306 account will not be allowed to use the ticket reservation function for the following 90 days.
Rules for Refunds and Changes of Reserved Tickets
After making full payment, both the ticket purchaser and passenger can apply for a ticket refund or change. For any reserved ticket or new ticket obtained through a change, a refund fee of 5 percent of the full ticket price (face value) will be charged if the refund application is submitted between the 20th day and the 8th day before departure. For any refund request made within 8 days prior to departure (exclusive), the existing refund rules for advance-sale train tickets shall apply.
Each reserved ticket can be changed once within the advance-sale period. If the application for a ticket change is made between the 20th day and the 8th day before departure and the new ticket costs less than the original one, the difference will be refunded, and a 5-percent refund fee will be charged for the difference. All other applications for ticket changes shall incur service fees in line with the prevailing tiered charging standards. Rules for ticket sales, refunds and changes within the 15-day pre-sale period remain unchanged.
