With the Labor Day holiday approaching, railway authorities have announced new changes to train tickets. Specifically, additional overnight high-speed trains will be put into operation for the holiday, with their tickets on sale five to seven days before departure dates.
Usually, train tickets go on sale 15 days in advance. During the peak periods at the beginning and the end of the holiday — specifically from the night of April 29 to the early morning of May 2, and from the night of May 4 to the early morning of May 6 — railway authorities will arrange an average of about 700 additional overnight direct high-speed trains daily on major high-speed railways such as Beijing-Shanghai, Beijing-Guangzhou, and Beijing-Harbin. Tickets for these trains are scheduled to become available in stages based on directions, with some going on sale seven days before departure dates, and others five days before departure dates. Now tickets for these overnight high-speed trains have gone on sale.
The railway authorities remind travelers planning to take special trains, such as tourist trains or sports fan trains during the holiday, that they can also purchase tickets on the Railway 12306 App. Tickets for these trains, however, cannot be directly purchased via the homepage. Passengers need to first tap the "Railway Travel" (铁路旅游) section on the App, and enter the page of "Special Tourist Trains" (旅游专列) to book tickets.
