The 2026 Fortune Global 500 rankings were recently released, according to which Beijing has claimed the top spot among cities worldwide for 14 consecutive years for being home to the headquarters of 42 Fortune Global 500 companies. This number is larger than the combined total of Tokyo (26) and New York (15), making Beijing the undisputed global hub for the headquarters of the Fortune Global 500 companies.

Representative companies headquartered in Beijing include the State Grid, China National Petroleum Corporation, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, China Mobile, BAIC Group, JD.com and Xiaomi, spanning multiple sectors such as energy, finance and technology. JD.com ranks among the top 50 for the third consecutive year, rising three places from last year to No. 41 this year.

A total of 122 Chinese companies made the list of this year's Fortune Global 500, a decrease of 8 from last year, ranking second only behind the United States in terms of the number of companies included.

The Fortune Global 500 companies are located in 242 cities across 35 countries and regions worldwide. The top five cities with the highest number of the companies — Beijing, Tokyo, New York, London and Paris — are home to nearly one quarter of the Fortune Global 500 companies.
