As Beijing enters the dog days of summer, temperatures are continuing to climb. To help animals beat the heat, Beijing Zoo has activated its summer heat‑relief plan, introducing multiple measures such as environmental cooling and dietary adjustments to create a refreshing and comfortable environment for the animals in the park.

Indoor enclosures have now switched on temperature-controlled air‑conditioning systems, with temperatures regulated within a comfortable range for each species. In outdoor enclosures, sprinklers, sprayers and misting devices have been activated and operate on a daily schedule, creating a cool and refreshing environment for the animals.

For when temperatures rise even further, the animal care team will prepare ice blocks in advance in the feed storage freezer for cold‑adapted animals such as polar bears. Dietary adjustments are another key part of the heat‑relief efforts. Based on the different nutritional requirements of different species and seasonal conditions, the zoo's animal nutritionists have carefully modified their diet.
