With the completion of its core construction phases, the highly anticipated upgrading project of the Beijing Suburban Railway Sub-Center Line (Beijing West Railway Station to Liangxiang) has officially entered the inspection and acceptance phase. As a vital transportation artery passing through the capital's southwestern region, this line is set to significantly alleviate regional commuting pressures.
With a total length of 31.5 kilometers, the section between Beijing West Railway Station and Liangxiang stations (the "western section" for short) passes through three districts: Fangshan, Fengtai and Shijingshan. Two new stations have been constructed for the upgrading project, namely Yamenkou East and Fangshan East. The three existing stations (Beijing West Railway Station, Houlvcun and Liangxiang) have been renovated. Additionally, a new 4.5-kilometer double-track section connecting Liangxiang to the Changyang Block Post has been laid. Once fully operational, the section will offer residents in the capital's southwestern region a new, efficient choice for traveling.
As vital components of the capital's rail transit network, Beijing's suburban railway lines serve multiple functions, including commuting (to and from workplaces and schools), and casual trips to nearby suburbs. Compared to the subway routes, these lines cover greater distances, with fewer stops, efficient connectivity, and faster services between major stations, meeting the needs of long-distance commuters.
