On July 29, Fortune magazine's website announced the latest Fortune Global 500 List. Beijing leads the global city ranking for the 13th consecutive year, with 47 companies listed—more than Tokyo (26) and New York (14) combined. The city has solidified its reputation as a "Hub of Global 500". Moreover, about one-quarter of the companies on the list have established their headquarters in Beijing, Tokyo, New York, Shanghai, and London, with Beijing hosting more headquarters than any other city.
Beijing-based companies on the list include State Grid Corporation of China, China National Petroleum Corporation, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, China Mobile, JD.com, Xiaomi, and Meituan. The ranking highlights that Beijing's strength lies not only in scale but also in industrial diversity and overall quality. A total of 41 state-owned enterprises (SOEs), with their formidable capacity, form the backbone of the city's Global 500 presence, while the six listed private enterprises serve as a vivid testament to the city's innovative vitality.
This year, 130 Chinese companies are on the list. Notably, 10 of them are automakers and auto parts companies, with Chery Group, BYD, and Geely Auto recording significant leaps in their rankings from last year.
