On July 9, "Star Express - Yanzhao" (星光·燕赵号), the inaugural sightseeing train for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region was launched, carrying more than 200 passengers from Beijing Railway Station to its first destination Chengde. In the future, the train will also call at Qinhuangdao, Zhangjiakou and other premium tourist destinations throughout the region.
The train consists of seven carriages, including four sightseeing carriages, one themed dining carriage, one panoramic view carriage and one multi-purpose entertainment carriage. The carriages are decorated with elements inspired by intangible cultural heritage items such as filigree enamel and jingtailan (Chinese cloisonné enamel), as well as patterns from famous paintings in the Ming and Qing dynasties. To enhance passengers' experience, the train incorporates innovative Low-E glass and a three-layer composite technology combining smart dimming film and UV protection film. This advanced design effectively blocks UV rays and heat while allowing passengers to adjust the transparency of windows, ensuring an uninterrupted panoramic view throughout the journey.
Within the sightseeing carriages, ergonomic massage seats and foldable trays ensure passenger comfort, while adequate USB ports keep devices powered. The train offers two VIP compartments, each equipped with a private lavatory and large viewing windows. At the lounge bar, passengers can buy snacks, beverages, playing cards, refrigerator magnets and intangible cultural heritage-inspired souvenirs like unique colorful fans and Luban locks.
The train also features upgraded senior-friendly and comfortable functions. Necessary facilities like handrails, anti-slippery floor mats, first-aid kits, emergency call buttons, wheelchair ramps and dry-wet separation lavatories are available. The sizes and layout of seats and toilets are also optimized to meet the needs of all ages.
Passengers can now buy tickets via the WeChat account "Star Express" (星光列车). Currently, the train departs for two destinations: Chengde and Qinhuangdao. There are diverse packages at different prices, such as "1 adult + 1 child", "2 adults + 1 child", and "VIP compartment". A special 25-percent discount is available now.
