As of 15:30 on July 29, 2024, the total number of the entries and exits recorded at Beijing's ports this year has exceeded 10 million, which is 2.5 times that of the same period last year, surpassing the total number of that for the whole year of 2023.
The 144-hour visa-free transit policy is welcomed by foreign tourists. As of July 29, Beijing's ports have handled a total of 443,000 inbound foreign passengers entering without visas, and granted entry to 37,000 foreign passengers eligible for the 144-hour free-visa transit policies, 9.2 times and 6.2 times that of the same period last year respectively. A family from the United Kingdom entered China via Beijing Daxing International Airport this year, with one of the family members remarking: "I saw China's 144-hour visa-free transit policy in an online travel column. This policy is great, with no longer complicated procedures, very nice for short-term travel."
To offer convenience for inbound foreign tourists at their first station in China, the Beijing General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection has been improving supporting measures. Specifically, it has encouraged 14 airlines to adopt electronic boarding passes for customs clearance, aiming to promote paperless exit and entry for passengers. It has also piloted the self-service printing of foreigner's arrival cards, aiming to solve the problems of congestion, queuing and long waiting times for foreign passengers when filling in the cards.
