In the first quarter of 2026, the total import and export volume of goods trade in the Capital Metropolitan Area (hereinafter referred to as the "Area") reached 1.02 trillion yuan, accounting for 8.6 percent of China's total volume. Specifically, exports stood at 290.09 billion yuan and imports at 731.25 billion yuan.
The Area covers Beijing Municipality, Tianjin Municipality, Hebei Province's Xiong'an New Area, as well as some districts and counties of Langfang, Baoding and Zhangjiakou cities in Hebei Province. In the first quarter, the Area played an important role nationwide in the import and export of bulk commodities. The combined import and export volume of crude oil, grain and other bulk commodities reached 322.75 billion yuan, making up 25 percent of the national total for such goods.
Leveraging a model underlining "ports, bonded zones, and maintenance and leasing", the Area has built internationally competitive advanced manufacturing clusters. In the first quarter, the import and export value of aircraft (with an unladen weight of over 2 tons), automobiles, ships and related products amounted to 90.33 billion yuan, representing 13.2 percent of the national total for these categories.
Commodities related to emerging industries, such as semiconductor manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and healthcare, have become new growth drivers for imports and exports in the Area. In the first quarter, the imports of semiconductor manufacturing equipment of the Area accounted for 23.9 percent of the national total, while the import and export volume of pharmaceuticals and healthcare-related products of the Area took up 25 percent of the national total in the same category.
