Beijing's case, "Barrier-Free Payments for a Smoother Journey: Building a Borderless Payment Environment for International Visitors to China", was selected as one of the "Top 10 National Innovative Practice Cases for Optimizing the Business Environment".
The city has completed a comprehensive upgrade of foreign card acceptance and currency exchange services. As of the end of July 2025, 18,000 key merchants across the city had fully implemented foreign card acceptance, and 11,400 ATMs supported withdrawals with foreign cards. The city has also introduced 892,000 application scenarios for digital renminbi and enabled smooth use of 15 major overseas e-wallet apps. Foreign visitors to Beijing can conveniently exchange renminbi at nearly 3,000 bank outlets, almost 300 licensed foreign currency exchange agencies, 90 self-service exchange machines, and 19 authorized exchange outlets across the city.
Payment service demonstration zones for inbound visitors have been built and expanded. As of the end of July 2025, the payment service centers at Beijing Capital International Airport and Daxing International Airport had provided services to 37,000 overseas visitors. The number of transactions handled by these payment service demonstration zones reached 1.794 million, involving foreign card payments, foreign currency exchanges, and foreign card withdrawals, amounting to 921 million yuan.
"Tap-and-go" has become a new hallmark of "Beijing Service" for travelers. As of the end of the second quarter of 2025, the "tap-and-go" service had registered a total of 1.4395 million transactions, with the value reaching 7.494 million yuan. The "tap-and-go" service for international cards recorded an average of 2,687 entry counts per day, with a daily peak approaching 4,700, all while maintaining a "zero-complaint" record.
