On April 24, at the press conference on Beijing's intellectual property right protection of 2024, the Beijing Municipal Intellectual Property Office announced that the city ranks first in China in the number of high-value invention patents per 10,000 people, and third among the sci-tech clusters worldwide.

In 2024, Beijing granted a total of 199,702 patents, including 119,635 invention patents. The city also registered 237,367 trademarks and 1,296,782 copyrights. Additionally, it received 962 applications for new plant variety rights, 361 of which received approvals.

As of December 2024, Beijing held 663,490 valid invention patents, up 15.52 percent year on year, and 3.232 million valid trademark registrations, up 4.98 percent year on year. The number of the high-value invention patents per 10,000 people reached 159.81, securing the city's top position in China. According to the Global Innovation Index 2024 released by the World Intellectual Property Organization, Beijing ranked third among global sci-tech clusters, moving up one rank from 2023.
