This is China's first specialized museum dedicated to the research and exhibition of ancient Chinese architectural techniques, artistry, and historical development, as well as the collection of relevant artifacts. It is located within the Temple of Agriculture complex to the west of the southern part of the Beijing Central Axis.
The Temple of Agriculture faces the Temple of Heaven across the street. It was a site where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties once performed rituals to the God of Agriculture and conducted ceremonial plowing rites. Dating back to 1420, it is one of the most well-preserved components of Beijing's imperial sacrificial complex.
The museum currently features several exhibitions, including "Ancient Chinese Architecture" (中国古代建筑展), "History and Culture of Beijing's Temple of Agriculture" (北京先农坛历史文化展), "Cultural Heritage of Beijing's Imperial Altars and Temples" (北京坛庙文化展), and "Architectural Art of Shenyang Imperial Palace" (沈阳故宫建筑艺术展).
