Originally built in 1918, this was the main campus building of Peking University, housing the School of Liberal Arts and the library. As a modern building bearing witness to the Chinese Revolution, it carries profound historical significance for witnessing the climax of the New Culture Movement. It also served as a key birthplace of the May Fourth Movement, and was one of the places where one of the earliest Beijing-based organizations of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was founded.
Today, several exhibitions about the early revolutionary activities of CPC in Beijing are displayed there.
