The museum is a national first-class museum of China, dedicated to the collection, preservation, research, and exhibition of the artifacts and documents related to Lu Xun, as well as other prominent figures and various major events that occurred during the New Culture Movement period in China. Formed in July 2014 through the merger of the former Beijing Lu Xun Museum and the Beijing New Culture Movement Memorial, it comprises two areas for the two former museums. The museum currently houses more than 70,000 items including cultural relics and books, among which 759 are classified as the national first-class cultural relics of China.
