Starting from July 1, Beijing's residents enrolling in medical insurance can use their personal medical insurance accounts to purchase over-the-counter (OTC) medicines online from 300 designated retail pharmacies via Meituan and JD.com. These 300 pharmacies now cover all the 16 administrative districts and Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area of the city.
When purchasing medicines online, individuals need to first log in to either of the two aforementioned platforms, select medicines marked with the blue sign showing "Medical Insurance" (医保), and then choose "Payment via Personal Medical Insurance Account of Beijing" (北京医保个人账户支付) after submitting the order.
The medicine cost will be covered by the personal medical insurance account, while the delivery and packaging fees will still be borne by the consumers. After an online order is placed, the medicine purchase platform will arrange the delivery immediately. Online medicine purchase also supports mutual-aid use of personal medical insurance accounts among the registered family members in Beijing.
Beijing Municipal Medical Insurance Bureau has also launched guidelines and instructional videos for online medicine purchasing. Residents are advised to follow the official WeChat account of Beijing Municipal Medical Insurance Bureau for more details.
