On November 9, Beijing's first waterway connecting the city center with the Beijing Municipal Administrative Center (BMC) became navigable. The 28-kilometer route starts from the INDIGO pier on the Bahe River, meanders through key areas including Jiangtai, Jiuxianqiao, Dongba, and Jinzhan, as well as the Wenyu River, and ultimately reaches the Grand Canal's section in BMC, making it the longest urban waterway in Beijing. The 15-kilometer section from INDIGO on the Bahe River to the Wenyu River is in the trial navigation phase, with four locks completed to ensure smooth passage.

The waterway offers breathtaking scenery all year-round, serving as a moving art gallery on water. In spring, peach trees of various kinds (including Prunus davidiana and Prunus persica 'Duplex') burst into color. In autumn, the golden leaves of "Jinye" border privets (Ligustrum obtusifolium cv. jinye), along with dawn redwoods in orange and red hues, create a vivid, painting-like scene. Throughout the year, the riverbanks are adorned with flowers like Chinese violet cress and cosmos. No matter the season, every photo you snap along the waterway could turn out stunning.
The waterway is also a hidden gem for sightseeing, shopping, and dining, connecting numerous popular commercial areas and cultural parks—so engaging that you won't want to leave! At Langyuan Station, you'll be treated to a perfect combination of riverside views, greenery, bookstores, and cafés, perfect for afternoon tea and nightlife. You can also visit the 798-751 Art District or Lido Business Area for a different experience. After exploring art exhibitions, you can stroll into trendy shops—shop, browse, and grab a bite all in one place. Of course, Taikoo Place Beijing is a must-see—this new commercial landmark integrating urban functions and water views will never disappoint you!
The riverside experiences are equally exciting. So far, the waterfront paths stretching 21 kilometers along both banks of the Bahe River have been completed, forming a combined transport network for both walking and cycling. To ensure a smooth experience for cyclists and pedestrians, the underpasses under 13 river-crossing bridges have been linked together. Eventually, this waterfront greenway will be extended to 43.4 kilometers—something worth looking forward to in the near future!
When the sunny days remain, grab your friends and go experience it together!
